Cardinals Joint Venture, Western Australia
The Cardinal's prospect is located approximately 30 kilometres south-west of the Panorama project (Sipa Resources International NL/Outokumpu Zinc Australia Ltd), in volcanic rocks of the Pilbara Block. Shallow percussion drilling in 1978 beneath surface gossans returned a best intersection of 10 metres @ 5.9% zinc, 0.94% copper, 36 grams per tonne silver (including 2 metres @ 13.2% zinc).
Re-interpretation of the data suggests that three follow up holes drilled in 1982 may not have tested the strike extensions of this intersection, although positive results (best 0.9 metres @ 9.37% zinc, 1.15% copper, 36 grams per tonne silver) were returned. There has been no subsequent drilling of this potentially open target, despite its strategic location, close to the Panorama project, which is currently the subject of a feasibility study.
Zinc Co Australia Limited can earn up to 75% interest at Cardinals.
